Truckee Meadows Tomorrow and Washoe County: A Real Story of Community Indicators-Performance Measures Integration

Published: 09/08/2010

September 8th, 2010. In building off of the general outline for CI-PM projects described in the first webinar, this one presented an actual real story of CI-PM integration in action.

Located in northwestern Nevada, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT) is a nonprofit organization that was initially started as "an organization of organizations" that engaged the wider community to develop a set of measurable and actionable indicators, after research showed "quality of life" was one of the main reasons businesses relocate to the region.  Washoe County saw the value of citizen-driven indicators and began integrating them into environmental scans and strategic planning in the mid-1990's. This led to integrating the community indicators as tools for performance measurement and management, requiring teamwork across departments through performance targets, budgeting and policy decisions in order to improve service delivery with ever-scarcer resources in measurable ways responsive to citizen priorities.
